How AI is used here
AI helps build this site. It never invents the data, and anything it writes for you to read is labelled.
Where AI helps
AI coding agents write most of this site's code and its explanatory pages, under human direction. So far they have been Anthropic's Claude models and OpenAI's Codex.
Pages written this way, such as How to read launch times and these About pages, list their sources and carry the label Written with AI from the sources listed. The privacy notice, the terms and the short introductions on Credits and Corrections were drafted the same way; the privacy notice was checked line by line against what the site's code does.
Where AI never goes
Launch data
Times, dates, statuses and figures come from the sources on How we source, worded by fixed rules in our code. AI does not write or change them.
Pictures of real things
There are no AI-generated images or videos on this site today. Photographs and footage of real rockets, people and places come from their owners and carry their credit.
News articles
We never summarise, rewrite or paraphrase a news article, with AI or without. A news item is its headline, the site, the time and a link.
If AI does more later
Any AI visual would be abstract atmosphere only, labelled AI-generated visual, never showing real hardware or events as if they were real, and never shown with NASA insignia.
Short AI-written summaries may come later, made only from openly licensed sources: NASA's public-domain releases, ESA/Webb and ESA/Hubble (CC BY 4.0), arXiv metadata (CC0), the UK Space Agency (Open Government Licence) and other CC BY material. Each would be labelled, link to its source and never be presented as written by NASA. The models used will be named on this page before the first summary appears.
The labelling promise
From 2 August 2026, Article 50 of the EU AI Act requires AI-generated text published to inform the public on matters of public interest to be disclosed, unless a person has reviewed it and takes editorial responsibility for it. This site labels all of its AI-written explanatory text, whether or not anyone has reviewed it.
AI can be wrong. Labelled pages list their sources so you can check them, and every correction we make is logged on Corrections.
A contact address for corrections and privacy questions will be published here shortly.
